UST Press launches new novel on Bikol



THE University of Sto. Tomas Publishing House will launch Abdon M. Balde Jr.'s latest contribution to Philippine fiction, his novel, "Awit ni Kadunung." The latest novel, the longest among Balde's works of fiction, narrates the journey of the character Peter back to Bikol to closely study the Ibalong epic and its three heroes. Along the way, the main character encounters various experiences, mysteries, as well as puzzling auguries and self-discoveries.

Balde is the author of the novels, "Pangarap at Pangitain," "Mâyong," "Hunyangong Bato,"and  "Calvary Road." He has received the 2003 Rokyaw Ibalong Bikol Achievement Award in Literature, 2007 Premio Tomas Arejola Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2008 Omaw sa Oragon. He is a recipient of the the National Book Award, Juan C. Laya Prize for Best Novel and Best Book of Fiction, Gintong Aklat Award and the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature. He is a civil engineer by profession, and hails from Busac, Oas, Albay. He now resides in Las Piñas City with his family.

"Awit ni Kadunung" will be launched on September 15, 2008, during the Manila International Book Fair at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
